International Trade Facilitation: Malawi Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP)

Kudu Consulting is assembling its expert team for an upcoming World Bank-financed consultancy supporting Producer Organisations and Agri-SMEs in Malawi to access regional (SADC/COMESA) and Asian export markets, under the Malawi Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP).

We are looking to engage two Key Experts:

1. Team Leader

Leading the regional-market workstream, consolidating expert inputs, coordinating consultations/workshops, and ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Sought profile:

  • Master’s degree in international trade, agribusiness, business, economics or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated professional experience in international trade, export promotion, agribusiness market development, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in at least two (2) similar assignments supporting SMEs, Producer Organisations or farmer-based organisations with market expansion, export readiness or export-market entry.
  • Experience and knowledge of regional market dynamics, preferably including SADC and/or COMESA markets.
  • Knowledge of international trade regulations, export documentation, standards, certification and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the agricultural market landscape in Malawi.
  • Experience in two or more of the agricultural value chains (Soybeans, Sugar beans, Pigeon peas, Groundnuts, Sesame, Bird’s-eye chilli) is an added advantage

Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in crafting strategic plans and delivering training.
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.

2. Market Expert — Asia Region

Leading analysis of target Asian markets, import/regulatory requirements, buyer and distribution-channel identification, and market-entry recommendations.

Sought profile:

  • Master’s degree in international trade, agribusiness, business, economics or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated professional experience in international trade, export promotion, agribusiness market development, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in at least two (2) similar assignments involving Asian market research, export promotion, export-market entry or buyer linkage for SMEs or farmer-based organisations.
  • Professional experience and knowledge of market dynamics in at least two (2) Asian countries, including import requirements, distribution channels and buyer expectations.
  • Knowledge of Asian import regulations, sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, technical barriers to trade, standards, certification and conformity-assessment requirements.
  • Experience with agricultural, horticultural or shelf-ready products exported to Asian markets shall be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience of agricultural market systems in Asia, including relevant market structures, distribution channels and buyer requirements.

Skills:

  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.
